Needle Drowning
as the needle hits her vein
she feels
glowing within
parents embracing
from behind,
boyfriend kissing her
on a warm summer night,
baby nuzzling
into her thigh.
she is
a gaunt skeleton
dipping her bony finger
in a swirling black pool,
a spinal ridge shivering
corpse
drowning in turbid waves
screaming for life ring.
The Beetle
the crushed brown carapace
screams with silent pain.
splintered into
a hundred broken shards,
flattened lifeless flakes
trembling in the wind,
toffee pieces
cracked and brittle,
clinging to the boy’s soles,
crushing further
to fine powder
the living,
breathing creature,
wrath swelling within me
bubbling and red.
